It is easy to get sucked into the
pictures you see on the Internet of perfectly beautiful Christmas crafts
and feel both inadequate or somehow not meeting the great expectations
of the holiday season. As an homage to these photos, I thought I would
share how we celebrate in our house. Christmas is real...
REAL messy.
(And a shot of the gingerbread house we made because tepees are easier to construct than houses.)
I absolutely love this post and can relate to your feelings! I was raised by a mom who in my viewpoint was the ultimate crafter and always had the most amazing creations for any holiday. She made it all look so effortless. I struggle to avoid comparing myself to her because... well.. there is no comparision. I take short cuts and my children and I are known to revel in the messiness that accompanies cookie making, painting, and projects that involve sticky substances such as glue. The funny thing is that my mother now says she was just "winging it." That's what we do as parents. We "wing-it" and hope that we are creating fun memories. I am sure your children will recall the fun they had making their gingerbread houses with mommy. Thanks for writing about this topic. I don't feel so alone now!
