My Review:

Several years ago, when the movie The Princess and the Frog came out in theaters, I took Miss M to the theater. She was only four at the time and probably too young to see a movie in the theater. We only made it through the movie up until the point where Shadow Man entered the scene. Instantly, my daughter screamed. Shadows terrified her. This movie played into how children fear what lurks in the dark and how shadows can play tricks on the mind. After the movie, for the weeks that followed, the shadows in our house were all the working of Shadow Man.

What I wouldn't have given to have Whose Shadow Do I See? to read to her back then!  For any parent who has had a child that says, "But wait!" every time they try to walk out the door, you will want a copy of this book. When the Pappa tries to leave the room, the little one starts to fret about the shadows in the room. Every time the little one's imagination gets the best of him, the Pappa in the story helps ease his son's fears.

Whose Shadow Do I See? is a playful bedtime story that have simple rhymes that keep the busiest of toddlers listening. The blues and purples of the illustrations are calming to the eye. Each page begs the reader to imagine what is possibly hidden in the shadows. I adore that Mark Braught drew a copy of Rosalind's book The Monsters Three sitting on the red chair. This attention to detail is always a delight, giving the reader another reason to read the book multiple times.

We were lucky enough to attend the book launch of Whose Shadow Do  I See? at the marvelous bookstore FoxTale Book Shoppe. My children thoroughly enjoyed listening to the book read aloud and having both the author and illustrator sign our copy of the book. It was an intimate setting with an eager crowd. There was one adorable little girl sitting next to my daughter that shouted each time  Rosalind asked, "Whose Shadow Do I See?" Seeing the other children react so fondly to the book lets me know it will be a huge hit for any family that adds this title to their personal library.

Can't wait to see what Rosalind and Mark come up with next!
